Luis Enrique García wins gold at Mathematics Olympiad in Mexico

Luis Enrique García González, a 14-year-old student from Táchira, Venezuela, won the gold medal at the XXVIII Mathematics Olympiad of Central America and the Caribbean (OMCC) 2026 held in Durango, Mexico.

García González achieved the highest score of the competition, earning 41 out of 42 possible points. The tournament involved participants from 14 delegations and required solving complex problems in algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory over two days of examinations.

A member of the 'Semilleros Científicos' national program, García González recently received an Honorable Mention at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Shanghai, China. He competed alongside fellow Venezuelan students Carlos Díaz, Eduardo Sahhar, and Miranda Huatuco.
