Mexican officials resign to pursue Morena party candidacies
Several Mexican government officials are resigning from their posts to participate in internal Morena party processes for upcoming municipal and regional elections.
In Baja California Sur, President Claudia Sheinbaum requested that Leonel Cota Montaño step down from his role as Undersecretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. The move aims to prevent potential conflicts of interest, as his son, Manuel Alejandro Cota Cárdenas, is a candidate for the 2027 governorship.
In Tamaulipas, a wave of resignations has occurred following the closure of Morena's municipal call for candidates. Ninfa Cantú Deándar resigned as Secretary of Economy to run for mayor in Nuevo Laredo. Other officials, including Luis Eduardo García Reyes and Rómulo Pérez Sánchez, have also left their positions to seek party nominations in various municipalities such as Ciudad Victoria and Reynosa.
In Zacatecas, Hamurabi Gamboa Rosales resigned from the State Council for Science, Technology, and Innovation (COZCYT) to run for a municipal coordination role in Jerez. Additionally, in Quintana Roo, Flavio Carlos Rosado announced his departure from the Ministry of Health to pursue political aspirations in Isla Mujeres.
