Luis Hernandez wins UFC debut with sub in under one minute

Luis Hernandez, an active Miami-Dade Sheriff's Deputy, secured a dominant UFC debut at UFC Vegas 121, defeating Sedriques Dumas via a guillotine choke in under one minute. Stepping in on just two days' notice to replace Mickey Gall, Hernandez moved from middleweight to light heavyweight for the bout.

The victory improves Hernandez's professional record to 9-0, with all nine wins coming via finish. Following the submission, Hernandez received a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus. The matchup drew significant attention due to the contrasting backgrounds of the fighters, as Hernandez is a law enforcement officer and Dumas has a history of multiple arrests.

After the fight, Hernandez expressed that he has much more to show the world and noted his desire to compete in future bouts. The win follows his recent appearance on Dana White's Contender Series, which earned him his UFC contract.
