Luis Jara claims Chilean folk artist rejected collaboration over politics
Chilean singer Luis Jara revealed an uncomfortable encounter with a prominent folk artist who reportedly declined a musical collaboration due to political differences. During an appearance on the television program ‘La Divina Comida’, Jara described inviting the artist to perform a medley of cuecas last year out of deep admiration.
According to Jara, the artist responded by stating, “I would love to, but you are from the other side.” When Jara questioned which political side she was referring to, the artist allegedly justified her refusal by suggesting that performing with him would cause her to lose work.
Jara expressed disappointment with the incident, criticizing a perceived lack of generosity within the national artistic community. He noted that he has felt more professional generosity from foreign colleagues than from his own peers, stating that he expected artistic decisions to be based on musical merit rather than ideology.
