Luis Lazarus alleges political censorship and democratic decline in Romania

European Parliament member and Justice and Fraternity Party president Luis Lazarus has raised alarms regarding the state of democracy in Romania, warning of a shift toward a police state and dictatorship. Lazarus criticized the use of preventive detention, arguing that it is being applied to individuals without concrete evidence, and questioned the legal basis for preventing certain candidates from running for office.

Lazarus also protested the suspension of his TikTok account, alleging political censorship by the platform. He identified TikTok coordinators Laura Andreea Savu and Simion Dorin Rusu, claiming their previous political affiliations with the PNL and USR parties influence the platform's content moderation. He argues that these connections lead to the programmed suppression of political opinions and the deletion of content that is critical of established political entities.
