Luis Llopis departs Real Madrid goalkeeper coach role
Luis Llopis has departed from his role as goalkeeper coach at Real Madrid. Despite being offered a position within the club, Llopis declined to continue as the new manager, José Mourinho, has appointed Nuno Santos to the role. Santos previously worked with Mourinho at Tottenham, Roma, and Benfica.
Llopis’s tenure at the club spanned several eras, including working under Rafa Benítez, Zinedine Zidane, and Carlo Ancelotti. He was notably involved during the club’s period of three consecutive European Cup titles and worked closely with goalkeepers such as Thibaut Courtois, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Andriy Lunin. Following his departure, several players, including Courtois, expressed their gratitude for his coaching and support.
Separately, Real Madrid is scheduled to play a friendly match against Schalke 04. The match features Loris Karius, the German goalkeeper playing for Schalke, who will face his former opponent from the 2018 Champions League final.
