Luis Arce remains in preventive detention amid multiple legal cases

Former Bolivian President Luis Arce Catacora faces multiple legal challenges. A judge has rejected a request from his defense to lift his preventive detention, ordering him to remain in the San Pedro prison in La Paz. Arce is currently being investigated in the ‘Fondo Indígena’ case regarding alleged corruption during his tenure as Minister of Economy. While his detention continues, the court has authorized him to receive necessary medical attention for ongoing health issues, including renal concerns and an oncological history.

Separately, the Cochabamba Prosecutor's Office dismissed a complaint filed by Brenda Lafuente, who accused Arce of the aggravated crime of child abandonment. Lafuente, a former government official, claims Arce failed to provide medical and economic assistance for their son, who suffered health complications due to prematurity. Lafuente has announced her intention to appeal this dismissal to keep the investigation open.

Additionally, Luis Marcelo Arce Mosqueira, the former president's son, is under investigation for alleged money laundering. Authorities have linked him to several individuals suspected of acting as straw men to manage assets that do not align with his declared income, including high-end vehicles and real estate properties.
