Luis Ángel Malagón returns to starting goalkeeper role for Club América
Luis Ángel Malagón has returned to the starting goalkeeper position for Club América following a seven-month absence. His return follows a recovery from a ruptured left Achilles tendon sustained in March during a Concacaf Champions Cup match against Philadelphia Union.
The injury required surgery and sidelined Malagón from both Liga MX and his involvement with the Mexican national team. During his rehabilitation, Malagón reported significant physical challenges, including a seven-kilogram weight loss and uncertainty regarding his ability to walk again.
While Malagón was absent, Rodolfo Cota served as the primary goalkeeper. Reports indicate that manager Guillermo Almada has decided to reinstate Malagón to the starting lineup following a 1-1 draw against Monterrey, where Malagón played the full 90 minutes and delivered a notable performance.
