Luis Ángel Malagón returns to training after Achilles injury
Mexican goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón has returned to activity following a long recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon. The injury, sustained on March 10 during a Concacaf Champions Cup match against Philadelphia Union, forced him to miss the 2026 World Cup cycle, a setback he described as one of the most difficult moments of his career.
Malagón shared that the injury caused significant physical and emotional challenges, including a period of deep depression and the fear that he might not be able to walk again. He credited his family, particularly his daughter, for helping him through the recovery process.
After participating in activities with the Club América U-21 squad, Malagón returned to training with the first team during a preparation match against Cruz Azul in San Diego, California. While he is physically healthy, he noted that regaining match rhythm remains his primary focus as he aims to return to the Mexican national team and win more titles with Club América.
