Luis R. Vera releases new film De astronautas y fantasmas

Filmmaker Luis R. Vera is releasing his new feature film, ‘De astronautas y fantasmas’, in Paraguayan cinemas on October 22. The 96-minute production is a co-production between Paraguay and Chile.

The film blends social drama with magical realism, focusing on a family shaped by emigration and economic instability. The narrative centers on a 19-year-old woman caring for her terminally ill grandfather while they depend on her mother, who has emigrated to Spain for work. This storyline reflects a common reality for many Paraguayan families facing separation due to the search for foreign employment.

Directed by Vera, known for works such as ‘Miss Ameriguá’ and ‘Mangoré’, the film has already received awards in Italy and Sweden and has been screened in the United States, Mexico, and Chile. The cast includes Héctor Silva, Tomás Arredondo, and Sofía Netto.
