Luis Raúl Menocchio transferred to Ezeiza prison amid drug trafficking probe

Luis Raúl ‘Gusano’ Menocchio, a high-profile inmate serving two life sentences for homicide, has been transferred from the Rawson Unit 6 prison in Chubut to the Ezeiza Penitentiary Complex.

The transfer follows a formal request by Chubut Governor Ignacio Torres, aimed at dismantling a suspected drug trafficking network that authorities believe Menocchio was managing from within the prison. A year-long investigation by the Chubut Police, involving over 40 raids, suggested that Menocchio used unregistered telephones to direct criminal activities and coordinate with associates outside the facility.

Before the decision to move him to Ezeiza was finalized, authorities in Chaco and Corrientes reported they lacked available space to house the inmate. Governor Torres stated that the move was necessary to prevent federal prisons in the province from serving as operational bases for organized crime.
