Luis Rengifo diagnosed with torn ACL and MCL sprain
San Diego Padres utility player Luis Rengifo has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and a sprained MCL in his right knee. The injury occurred during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday when Rengifo's leg buckled while he was attempting to make a throw during a rundown between second and third base.
Rengifo, who joined the Padres in July, is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season. He was batting .291 in 38 games since joining the club. While he is currently on the 10-day injured list, he will be transferred to the 60-day IL to free up a roster spot when necessary. The injury is expected to impact his availability for a significant portion of the 2027 season as well.
