Luis Robert Jr. returns to Chicago to face former White Sox team
Luis Robert Jr. returned to Rate Field on August 21, 2026, to face his former team, the Chicago White Sox, as a member of the New York Mets. After spending his first six major league seasons in Chicago, Robert expressed pride in the White Sox's performance as they lead the AL Central.
During the game, Robert batted sixth and played left field for the Mets. Despite his history with the White Sox, the Mets struggled during the matchup, ultimately losing 6-4 to Chicago following a walk-off home run. Robert, who dealt with a lumbar disc herniation earlier in the season, went 1-for-3 with a double in the contest.
The Mets' series also highlighted the performance of rookie Carson Benge, who has emerged as a strong candidate for the NL Rookie of the Year award, bolstered by his power hitting and defensive capabilities in the outfield.
