Luis Rubiales completes FIFA ban but remains disqualified in Spain

Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has completed his three-year ban imposed by FIFA as of August 26. This international sanction stemmed from his non-consensual kiss of player Jenni Hermoso during the 2023 Women's World Cup celebrations. While the FIFA ruling allows him to participate in football-related activities outside of Spain, he remains barred from all Spanish sporting activities.

In Spain, the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) imposed a separate three-year disqualification that is not set to expire until approximately November 17, 2026. Additionally, Rubiales faces the consequences of a judicial ruling from February 2025, which included a fine of 10,800 euros and a 3,000 euro indemnity payment to Hermoso for moral damages following a conviction for sexual aggression.
