Luisa Neubauer criticizes German renewable energy subsidy proposal
Climate activist Luisa Neubauer has issued a sharp critique on Instagram regarding a proposal by the Unionsfraktion in the Bundestag to phase out subsidies for renewable energy by 2045. Neubauer characterized the move as “ideological obsession” and argued that it represents a refusal to learn from economic and political experience.
According to reports, the Unionsfraktion aims to gradually reduce subsidies under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). This contrasts with a government draft from Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche (CDU), which maintains a 20-year subsidy period. Reiche has defended the reform by citing the high costs of the energy transition and elevated electricity prices, noting that significant relief is not expected until the 2030s.
The Bundestag held its first deliberations on the draft on September 24, and discussions between the Union and the SPD are ongoing.
