Luján pilgrimage draws millions in record-breaking turnout

The 52nd Youth Pilgrimage to Luján took place this weekend, drawing millions of faithful participants who walked approximately 60 kilometers from Liniers to the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján. Under the theme ‘Madre, en tu abrazo nos reconocemos hermanos’, the event was noted as the most attended in its history, serving as a precursor to the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Luján.

To manage the massive crowds, authorities implemented an extensive operational plan involving security, health, and sanitation services. The Municipality of Luján and various organizations deployed over 430 personnel for traffic and security, alongside more than 80 health professionals and volunteers. Additionally, over 170 workers were assigned to cleaning and waste collection to mitigate the environmental impact of the large-scale gathering. More than 60 health posts were established along the route through the western districts of Buenos Aires province to assist pilgrims.
