Luka Doncic absent from Slovenia national team amid family priorities

Slovenian veteran center Alen Omić has commented on the absence of star player Luka Doncic from the national team during their preparations for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. Following a 85-78 friendly loss to Montenegro, Omić noted that Doncic has not communicated with his teammates, stating, “No, he hasn't spoken. He has his obligations. We leave him alone, and he leaves us alone.”

Doncic has prioritized family time and personal obligations regarding his daughters over basketball commitments this summer. While absent from the national squad, Doncic has been hosting the Los Angeles Lakers in Slovenia for a training camp, involving the roster in various local activities.

Omić emphasized the need for the rest of the squad to step up in the absence of their star, noting that while the team needs its best player, they must adapt. Slovenia is scheduled to face France in Paris on August 27, followed by a home game against Hungary on August 30.
