Luka Doncic assumes Lakers leadership following LeBron James departure

Luka Doncic has officially stepped into the role of primary leader for the Los Angeles Lakers following the departure of LeBron James to the Philadelphia 76ers. During the NBA Media Day, the Slovenian superstar emphasized that his singular goal for the upcoming season is to win a championship, stating, “If that is not your goal, I don't know what you are doing here.”

Doncic expressed that while he aspires to win an MVP award, team success remains the priority. He noted that he feels honored by the responsibility and is not intimidated by the franchise's storied history. The Lakers have undergone significant roster changes, with only eight players returning from the previous season. New additions include Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Quentin Grimes, and Sandro Mamukelashvili.

In addition to the leadership shift, Bronny James spoke about his upcoming season, noting the motivation of establishing his own career path as he plays without his father on the same roster. The Lakers and 76ers are scheduled to face each other on Christmas Day, marking a father-versus-son matchup between LeBron and Bronny James.
