Luka Mesec releases negative drug test results amid allegations

Luka Mesec, the coordinator of the Levica party and a candidate for mayor of Ljubljana, has released results from a drug test conducted at the Institute of Forensic Medicine. The test, which analyzed a urine sample for substances including cocaine, amphetamines, and THC, returned negative results for all prohibited drugs.

This action follows allegations made by Dušan Smodej, who claimed in an interview that he had personally witnessed Mesec using cocaine during a New Year's Eve celebration in 2021. Smodej also alleged that Mesec and he had a close social relationship, contradicting Mesec's previous statements that they were not close acquaintances.

Mesec has dismissed these accusations as “planned lies” and a deliberate attempt to discredit him ahead of the Ljubljana mayoral elections. However, Smodej has released email correspondence suggesting that Mesec had previously declined event invitations, which Smodej argues contradicts Mesec's claim of only a single, public interaction with him.
