Luka Modrić celebrates 200th Croatia cap in Toronto ceremony

Luka Modrić, captain of the Croatian national football team, reached his 200th appearance for Croatia in the World Cup group match against Panama. The milestone, achieved at age 40, was marked by a video tribute from the Croatian Football Federation and the presentation of a special #200 jersey by federation president Marijan Kustić.

Before kickoff, Modrić and his teammates wore shirts reading "Luka 200" and gathered for a brief ceremony on the pitch in Toronto. He started the match and was substituted in the 81st minute, receiving a standing ovation from fans. The celebration highlighted his two‑decade career, which includes a World Cup silver medal in 2018, a bronze in 2022 and a Ballon d'Or.

The event also sparked speculation about Modrić’s future, as his club AC Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League, prompting rumours of a return to Real Madrid in a non‑playing role.
