Luka Modrić sets record as oldest Croatian goalscorer
Luka Modrić set a new record for the Croatia national team by becoming their oldest goalscorer during a UEFA Nations League match against the Czech Republic. Despite battling a viral illness that had made his participation uncertain, the 41-year-old midfielder scored in the 47th minute with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Croatia secured a 2-1 victory in Prague. Following Modrić’s opening goal, the Czech Republic equalized through Adam Karábek, but Croatia reclaimed the lead in the 77th minute via a goal from Marko Pašalić, assisted by Ivan Perišić. Modrić was substituted in the 76th minute to a standing ovation from both sets of fans.
This performance marks a significant milestone in Modrić’s long career, which includes 202 appearances for his country. His ability to contribute at a high level despite physical challenges continues to be a focal point for both the national team and his club, AC Milan.
