Luka Modrić signs extension with AC Milan through 2027
Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić has activated the option to extend his contract with Serie A club AC Milan until 30 June 2027, confirming he will play at least one more season despite being 40 years old. The club announced the renewal in an official statement, quoting Modrić: “I am very happy to stay at Milan, a club that welcomed me from day one. The desire to fight back is immense.”
In the 2025‑26 season Modrić made 34‑37 league appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists while logging 2 816 minutes. He led Milan in several statistical categories, notably 2 006 successful passes – the most by any Milan player aged 35 or older in the past two decades – and 1 209 successful passes in the opponent’s half. His performance has been described by statisticians as “timeless” and “masterful”.
