Luka Modrić Nears Decision on Staying with AC Milan

Croatian captain Luka Modrić is weighing his future after his contract with AC Milan expired on 30 June. Club president and coach Rubén Amorim have indicated a strong desire to keep him, stressing his leadership and experience. Amorim said, “He is the player we want to keep… we will count on Modrić next season.” Milan can extend his deal until 2027 with a salary of €4 million per year plus bonuses, while also planning to manage his minutes to preserve his fitness for a European‑League campaign.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has reportedly invited Modrić to take a non‑playing role at the club should he retire, and the Spanish side is preparing a project under José Mourinho that could involve the veteran midfielder as a liaison between players and management. Milan and Madrid are both vying for his commitment as the veteran approaches the final stages of his career.
