Luka Modrić to Extend Contract with AC Milan
Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić, 40, is expected to activate the optional year in his contract with AC Milan, extending his stay through the 2026‑27 Serie A season. He joined Milan in June 2025 on a one‑year deal worth roughly €3.5 million net per season, with an option for an additional year that would keep him at the club until June 2027 under similar terms. New head coach Rubén Amorim has publicly urged the club to retain Modrić, stating he would “personally go get him” if necessary, and sees the veteran as a stabilising presence during a transitional phase.
Beyond football, Modrić serves as a global brand ambassador for the cryptocurrency exchange CoinW and is linked to the $MODRIC meme token, which held a market cap of about $100 k in early June 2026. The token’s thin liquidity makes it vulnerable to market swings, and regulators in the US and Europe are increasingly scrutinising athlete‑led crypto promotions, a factor that could affect the economics of such partnerships.
If the extension is confirmed, Modrić will remain a key figure for Milan on and off the pitch, continuing his post‑Real Madrid career in Italy while maintaining a high‑profile role in the emerging sports‑crypto space.
