Luka Modrić’s future with Croatia and AC Milan under review

New Croatian national‑team coach Slaven Bilić has made retaining veteran captain Luka Modrić his top priority, stating he will meet the 41‑year‑old to persuade him to stay in the squad. Modrić’s international future remains uncertain, with a possible farewell appearance being discussed for a Nations League match against Spain on 6 October at Split’s Poljud stadium.

At club level, AC Milan is preparing a one‑year contract extension for Modrić, reportedly maintaining the €3.5 million salary from the previous season. Club owner Gerry Cardinale and former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimović have publicly backed the extension, while new manager Rubén Amorim has personally spoken to the player. A decisive meeting involving Modrić, his representatives and Milan officials is slated for the coming days.

During his summer break in his hometown of Zadar, Modrić was filmed playing tennis, demonstrating his continued fitness and discipline despite the offseason.
