Luka Modric signs one-year extension with AC Milan
Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić, now 40‑year‑old and set to turn 41, has reached a verbal agreement to extend his contract with Serie A club AC Milan for one season, running until 30 June 2027. The deal, confirmed by Italian media such as La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sky Sport and transfer reporters Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio, includes a salary of roughly €3.5‑4.5 million plus bonuses and is expected to be formalised within days.
Modrić also announced that he will retire from international football after Croatia’s Nations League match against Spain on 6 October in Split. He finishes his Croatia career with 202 caps and 29 goals, having captained the side to the 2018 World Cup final and a 2022 bronze medal. The midfielder will therefore focus exclusively on his role at Milan, where he will compete in Serie A, the Coppa Italia and European competition under coach Rubén Amorim.
