Luka Sammalisto wins Italian Formula 4 Championship
Luka Sammalisto has become the first Finnish driver to win the Italian Formula 4 Championship. Driving for US Racing, Sammalisto secured both the drivers’ and teams’ titles during the penultimate round at Misano.
Sammalisto’s championship run faced significant challenges during the Misano weekend. After struggling with changing weather conditions and poor qualifying results that left him starting 24th, he managed a strong recovery in the races. By finishing 12th in both of his initial races, he secured enough points to clinch the title with one round remaining.
In the same event, Christian Costoya of Prema achieved a hat-trick of wins, dominating the races from pole position. While Costoya led the field, the primary focus remained on Sammalisto’s historic achievement. Sammalisto has expressed intentions to move up to the FIA Formula Regional series next season.
