Lukas Bentel departs MSCHF to pursue solo art projects

Lukas Bentel, co-founder and founding chief creative officer of the viral art collective MSCHF, has announced his departure from the group to focus on independent art projects. Bentel stated his intention to return to creating art designed to leave a lasting impact on people.

Since its founding in 2019, MSCHF has gained notoriety for viral works that critique the art world, such as the ‘Severed Spots’ project involving a Damien Hirst painting and the ‘ATM Leaderboard’ at Art Basel Miami Beach. The collective has recently moved toward greater institutional recognition, including representation by the Perrotin gallery and exhibitions in Seoul, Los Angeles, and New York.

During his tenure, Bentel is credited with conceiving, designing, or directing nearly 300 released works across various mediums, including sculpture, footwear, fashion, software, and furniture.
