Lukas Podolski criticizes systemic issues in Polish football refereeing

Lukas Podolski, owner of the Polish football club Górnik Zabrze, has criticized the systemic issues within the Polish refereeing system. Following a recent victory, Podolski stated on X that the problems extend far beyond a single controversial incident involving coach Adrian Siemieniec and a text message to a referee.

Podolski argued that focusing solely on the Siemieniec case allows broader, long-standing issues to be ignored. He noted that for the five years he has been involved with Górnik Zabrze, there have been persistent problems regarding refereeing standards, the VAR system, and overall match management. He warned that resolving individual scandals without addressing the underlying system will result in no meaningful change for the league.
