Lukas Reimann elected to Wil city council
Lukas Reimann, a prominent Swiss People's Party (SVP) politician, has been elected to the city council of Wil after nearly 20 years serving in the National Council. In a second round of voting held on Sunday, Reimann secured his seat against Green Party candidate Michael Sarbach.
Reimann, 43, has been a member of the National Council since 2007, having first been elected at the age of 25. While he has won his seat in Wil, his exact timeline for leaving the national parliament remains uncertain; he indicated an intention to participate in at least the September session in Bern.
In the same election cycle, Andreas Breitenmoser of the Center Party was elected as the new city president, succeeding Hans Mäder, who resigned in August. The new city council is expected to convene this coming Tuesday to determine specific responsibilities within the local government.
