Lukavac nursing home fire leaves two residents seriously injured

A fire broke out at an elderly care facility in Lukavac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, around 00:30 on September 17, 2026. Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and medical teams, were dispatched immediately to the scene.

Two residents were hospitalized at the University Clinical Center Tuzla with serious injuries. One patient, born in 1948, suffered severe burns and inhalation injuries and is currently intubated on mechanical ventilation. A second patient sustained burns to the face and body. Both patients are reported to be in serious condition.

The remaining residents of the home were temporarily evacuated. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Tuzla has been notified, and investigators from the Lukavac Police Department, alongside fire protection inspectors, will conduct an investigation once conditions permit.
