Luke Beveridge coach receives threatening letter demanding $100,000

Brendon Berry, 54, has pleaded guilty to sending a threatening letter to Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge. The letter, which was sent to Beveridge’s home in June 2025, demanded a payment of $100,000 regarding a hotel bill.

During proceedings at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, it was revealed that the letter contained insinuated threats and references to the Moran crime family and the late footballer Darren Millane. While the letter did not detail specific physical acts, it prompted the implementation of extra security for Beveridge during an AFL match against North Melbourne.

In a victim impact statement, Beveridge expressed that he was “shocked and angry” and found the incident “deeply disturbing,” noting that the actions of a stranger had caused fear for those close to him.
