Luke Gabrysh ranked with best minor league slider

New York Mets prospect Luke Gabrysh has been identified by Baseball America as having the best slider in the minor leagues. According to the organization’s stuff+ model, Gabrysh earned a 132 rating on the pitch, surpassing Peyton Olejnik’s 130.

Data indicates a significant increase in the pitch’s effectiveness, specifically regarding horizontal movement. While Gabrysh averaged 11 inches of movement in 2025 and 12 inches during the 2026 spring training, his slider has recently reached an average of 17.6 inches. This high-spin sweeper, which sits in the low 80s, maintains a spin rate between 2,700 and 2,800 rpm.

Gabrysh was acquired by the Mets from the Philadelphia Phillies in a trade involving Brooks Raley. The Mets' pitch development staff, including Eric Jagers, has a recent history of enhancing similar breaking balls for players such as Kodai Senga and Christian Scott.
