Cameron Menzies defeats Luke Humphries at World Matchplay
Scottish darts player Cameron Menzies recorded a surprise victory over world‑number‑two Luke Humphries at the Betfred World Matchplay in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. Menzies hit a flawless 170 checkout and a decisive 98 finish to seal the win, which he described as the biggest moment of his career.
The 27th‑ranked Menzies, playing his second World Matchplay, will now face Ross Smith in the last‑16. Humphries, who had previously impressed with a 104 average at the US Darts Masters, was unable to recover after falling behind early. The match featured a dramatic swing of legs, with Menzies winning five straight to lead 8‑3 before Humphries narrowed the gap. Menzies’ post‑match comments emphasised the personal significance of the triumph and his determination to continue improving his finishing game.
