Luke Littler threatens Netherlands boycott following crowd hostility
The World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam concluded with Ross Smith securing his second major PDC title after defeating Gerwyn Price in the final. Commentators noted Smith’s outstanding performance, highlighted by a high average and significant scoring.
However, the tournament was overshadowed by the hostile reception received by Luke Littler. The young Englishman faced consistent booing and whistling from the Dutch crowd, particularly during his match against Nathan Aspinall. The atmosphere was described by commentator Mark Wilson as reaching a point where it spiralled out of control.
In response to the treatment, Littler has threatened to boycott future events in the Netherlands. He has already withdrawn from two Players Championship events in Den Bosch and cancelled his registration for the upcoming Dutch Darts Championship in Maastricht. Professional darts player Gary Anderson criticized the crowd behavior as ‘vile’, warning fans that they risk losing the opportunity to watch Littler’s talent if the abuse continues.
