Luke Perry: Actor's legacy and struggle with James Dean comparisons

Actor Luke Perry, best known for his role as Dylan McKay in the television series Beverly Hills, 90210, would have turned 60 this October. Perry passed away on March 4, 2019, at age 52 following a severe stroke.

Throughout his career, Perry was frequently compared to Hollywood icon James Dean, a label he reportedly found unsettling. He expressed a desire to live a long, varied career rather than following the path of the actor who died young.

Before his breakthrough, the Ohio native worked various jobs, including in an asphalt company and a door handle factory, and faced 256 unsuccessful auditions before landing his first role. Following his success in Beverly Hills, 90210, he also appeared in Riverdale.
