Luke Weaver battles severe poison ivy ailment

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Luke Weaver has been battling a severe case of poison ivy for nearly a month, which has impacted his recent performance. Weaver revealed that the ailment began in mid-August after he brushed against a bush during a series against the Miami Marlins.

The condition resulted in hives covering his entire lower body and significant sleep deprivation. Pirates manager Don Kelly noted that the medical staff has been working to assist Weaver, stating that while the case has been “tough to kick,” the pitcher is currently doing better.

Since being traded from the New York Mets to the Pirates at the August deadline, Weaver has posted a 5.79 ERA over 10 games and 9.1 innings pitched. This follows a highly successful stint with the Mets, where he maintained a 1.84 ERA over 44 innings.
