Luke Weaver moves to Pittsburgh Pirates after Mets trade

Relief pitcher Luke Weaver, who posted a 1.84 ERA over 44 innings for the New York Mets, was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the deadline. The Mets received 21‑year‑old shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura and cash considerations in return. Weaver, who signed a two‑year, $22 million contract last winter, said he had “strongly” expressed a desire to stay with the Mets, telling officials, “I hope you know I want to stay.” He acknowledged the team’s early-season struggles and the difficulty of adapting to rapid roster changes.
