Lukoil assets: Putin proposes $20 billion sale to US envoys

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed the sale of Lukoil's international assets to US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff as part of ongoing discussions regarding the conflict in Ukraine. The potential transaction involves energy assets valued at approximately $20 billion to $22 billion.

The portfolio includes oil fields in Cameroon, gas stations in New Jersey, and critical refineries located in the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Romania. These refineries are noted for their production of diesel and aviation fuel, which are vital to global markets.

A consortium led by American investor Todd Boehly is reportedly competing for the acquisition. This group includes Middle Eastern investors and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The deal, which would require approval from both the US and Russian governments, is being viewed by some as a potential method to build goodwill between Washington and Moscow while simultaneously lowering global energy prices.
