Lukovica Health Station celebrates 100 years of service

The Lukovica Health Station marked its centenary on October 24, 2026, with a formal ceremony at the Janko Kersnik Cultural Center. Established on October 24, 1926, the facility holds historical significance as the first health center in Slovenia.

The institution was founded to address poor hygienic conditions, water supply issues, and inadequate sanitation in the Črni graben area. Its founding principles focused on social and preventive medicine, emphasizing health education and the improvement of living conditions alongside traditional disease treatment.

The anniversary celebrations included a historical overview, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and an exhibition. Speakers included the Minister of Health, Dr. Tadej Ostrc, the Mayor of Lukovica, Mag. Olga Vrankar, and the Director of the Domžale Health Center, Mag. Renata Rajapakse. To commemorate the milestone, the Municipality of Lukovica published a jubilee book and reprinted Dr. Ivo Pirc’s work, ‘Asanacija Lukovice’ (Sanitation of Lukovica).
