Lula and Senate President to meet to advance legislative agenda

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senate President Davi Alcolumbre are scheduled to meet next week to discuss unblocking priority government agendas in Congress. This follow-up meeting comes after a dinner between the two leaders on August 4, which was mediated by ministers from the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

While the government reports an improvement in the relationship between the two leaders, several critical Constitutional Amendment Proposals (PECs) still face obstacles in the Senate. Key priorities include the Public Security PEC, which seeks to create the Unified Public Security System (Susp) and allocate 30% of sports betting tax revenue to the National Public Security Fund, and a proposal to end the 6x1 work scale. The latter aims to reduce the weekly workweek from 44 to 42 hours within 60 days, and eventually to 40 hours within 14 months.
