Lula criticizes Brazilian elite over historical literacy gaps

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that addressing inequality in Brazil is a slow process because the country is starting from a position of significant deficit. During an event in Rio de Janeiro, he criticized the Brazilian elite, claiming they historically neglected the literacy of workers to maintain a labor force characterized by ignorance.

Lula highlighted government efforts to promote education through culture, noting that the Ministry of Culture is investing in libraries. He also mentioned that the new Minha Casa, Minha Vida housing program includes libraries in all residential complexes to ensure access for those living outside city centers. Additionally, the president expressed concern regarding the impact of the internet on the vocabulary of younger generations.
