Lula da Silva leads Flávio Bolsonaro in Brazilian election polls

As Brazil approaches its general elections this Sunday, recent polling indicates that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva holds a lead over Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. According to a Quaest survey, Lula holds 39% of voter preference compared to 34% for Bolsonaro. Another poll by Nexus shows a similar gap, placing the incumbent at 42% against 37% for the Liberal Party figure.

Datafolha, a prominent Brazilian consultancy, reports a 4-point lead for Lula with 42% of the vote against 38% for Flávio Bolsonaro. While the gap has narrowed since June, both major polls suggest that neither candidate is likely to secure an absolute majority in the first round. This would necessitate a runoff election, scheduled for October 25.

In the event of a second round, Datafolha projects Lula maintaining a lead with 48% against 45% for Bolsonaro, while Quaest anticipates a much tighter race with both candidates at 42%. The election involves over 158 million citizens voting for the presidency, state governors, the Chamber of Deputies, and a third of the Senate, under the supervision of international observation missions.
