Lula defends investigations into son Fábio Luís Lula da Silva

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has publicly defended the ongoing investigations into his eldest son, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, also known as Lulinha. In an exclusive interview, Lula stated that “no one is above the law” and emphasized that his son must prove his innocence if wrongdoing is suspected. The President denied any attempts to obstruct or interfere with the judicial process, asserting that the Federal Police must have the freedom to conduct their work.

Lulinha is currently the subject of three Supreme Federal Court inquiries investigating suspected influence peddling and corruption involving government contracts. The investigations involve connections to lobbyist Roberta Luchsinger and former presidential chief of staff Marco Aurélio Santana Ribeiro. Federal Police reports suggest Lulinha may be an indirect beneficiary of negotiations facilitated by Luchsinger.

Simultaneously, a legal dispute has emerged as the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) has requested that one of the investigations be transferred from the Supreme Court to a lower court. The PGR argues there is insufficient evidence of involvement by high-ranking officials with special legal standing (foro privilegiado) to justify the case remaining at the Supreme Court level. Additionally, Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça has ordered an investigation into the potential leak of confidential information related to these proceedings.
