Lula expresses concern over Corinthians debt and suggests asset sales

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has expressed concern regarding the significant debt held by the Corinthians football club. During an interview, Lula noted that the club owes approximately R$ 600 million to Caixa Econômica Federal for stadium construction, despite having already paid R$ 1.075 billion. To address these financial struggles, he suggested a potential real estate partnership involving the sale or development of the Fazendinha stadium and Parque São Jorge to settle outstanding debts.

Club president Osmar Stabile reported that the total debt for the entity has reached R$ 2.8 billion. Stabile stated that the club is implementing cost-reduction measures across various departments to balance expenditures with revenue.

In a separate sporting context, Lula also commented on Corinthians' upcoming Copa Libertadores quarter-final match against Estudiantes. Offering lighthearted tactical advice, he suggested the team focus on increasing shots on goal to secure a victory.
