Lula hosts special screening of ‘Honestino’ film at Palácio da Alvorada
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva hosted a special screening of the film ‘Honestino’ at the Palácio da Alvorada as part of the ‘Cine Alvorada’ program. The screening, held ahead of the film’s wide theatrical release on Thursday, brought together government authorities and members of the production team.
Directed by Aurélio Michiles, the film is a blend of documentary and fiction that reconstructs the life of Honestino Guimarães, a prominent student leader and former head of the National Union of Students (UNE). Guimarães was a figure of resistance against the Brazilian military dictatorship; he was arrested five times before being captured in 1973. He disappeared at the age of 26 and has never been officially located.
The production utilizes historical archives, photographs, letters, and poems to portray Guimarães’s trajectory, including his time studying geology at the University of Brasília (UnB). The film features exclusive testimonies from family members and former comrades to provide a narrative of both the political activist and the individual.
