Lula skips TV Globo presidential debate for Flow Podcast interview

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has confirmed he will not participate in the final presidential debate organized by TV Globo before the first round of the 2026 elections. Instead, Lula will appear for a live interview on the Flow Podcast during the same time slot.

Lula's campaign cited strategic concerns, suggesting that the debate format could leave him vulnerable to concentrated attacks from multiple right-wing opponents, including Flávio Bolsonaro, Ronaldo Caiado, Augusto Cury, and Romeu Zema. Campaign allies expressed concern that limited response times would make it difficult to rebut all criticisms.

Flávio Bolsonaro has confirmed his attendance at the Globo debate despite Lula's absence. The debate will feature Zema, who secured participation following a TSE ruling by Minister Nunes Marques, as well as Caiado and Cury. TV Globo has announced it will leave the president's pulpit empty during the broadcast.
