Lulu Sun joins other WTA players in announcing breaks from professional tennis
Several professional tennis players have announced indefinite breaks from the WTA Tour. New Zealand's Lulu Sun, who reached a career-high ranking of 39 in 2024, stated she is stepping away to focus on her wellbeing. Sun noted that the “physical and mental demands of a competition schedule are relentless” and expressed a need to reset.
Other players joining the hiatus include Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia and Germany's Laura Siegemund. Haddad Maia, a former top 10 player, intends to take the remainder of 2026 off following a series of losses, planning a return in 2027 with a protected ranking. Siegemund, currently ranked in the top 100 for both singles and doubles, will miss the upcoming North American hard-court season.
