Lululemon appoints Heidi O’Neill as CEO amid business challenges

Heidi O’Neill, a former Nike executive, is set to become the new CEO of Lululemon Athletica Inc. She assumes leadership of the Vancouver-based athleisure retailer during a period of significant challenges.

The company has seen its Nasdaq-listed stock price decline from a peak of approximately US$500 in December 2023 to around $100. Additionally, Lululemon has faced shrinking revenues and criticism regarding product quality, including issues with see-through leggings and a lack of new styles.

O’Neill also inherits a complex corporate environment following a public dispute with founder Chip Wilson, who recently agreed to pause his criticisms of the brand. Interim CEO Meghan Frank indicated that O’Neill will conduct a deep dive into the company’s strategy and current business operations.
