Luminate Study Finds US Consumers Wary of AI-Generated Content
A Luminate Intelligence survey of 1,758 Americans aware of generative AI asked how knowledge that music, film, TV, games or news was AI‑created would affect their interest. Overall, 38% said they would be less interested while 28% said they would be more interested, with the remainder indifferent.
Attitudes varied sharply by age. Respondents aged 55 and older were the most negative across all media types. The 13‑17 age group showed a net positive reaction, whereas the 18‑24 cohort was strongly negative, with gaps of up to 58 points for AI‑scripted movies and TV. Among media formats, video games provoked the least opposition, with 40% of those surveyed neither more nor less interested when AI was used for characters or environments.
The report cautions against treating Gen Z as a monolith, noting divergent views within the generation and across older age groups. The findings suggest media companies may need to tailor AI‑driven content strategies to different demographic segments.
